Shine His Light

Some 2,000 years ago, God sent his Son. He became man to shine His light into a dark and hurting world.

Unfortunately, as I listen to our missionaries in the field, I hear a common theme. No matter their geographical location … no matter the specifics of his or her outreach … each and every one of our ministry staff serves in communities that suffer the devastating impact of suicide, substance abuse, and depression.

While struggles continue in Native communities, we continue to work diligently to spread the healing light of God’s love and the hope of the Gospel. We are compelled and encouraged to share the Good News of an abundant, eternal life through faith in Jesus whose birth we celebrate Christmas morning.

Today, Christ shines His light through individuals - people like you and me, people like the staff of Lutheran Indian Ministries. We have been given the opportunity to serve our Native brothers and sisters, to help them find the Light and the hope in the midst of darkness.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Savior, I invite you to please give generously so we may, together, proclaim the Good News and assist in the healing of those who are hurting.

Of the five million Native peoples living in America, only five percent know Jesus as the Light of the World. Please join me in praying that our service and our actions, as Christians, would shine that light on those in need and encourage them to ask about the hope and love that lives within each of us.

During the more than 30 years I have served with this ministry, I have seen the gifts of faithful friends like you at work, as God transforms lives and heals the spiritual, emotional, and physical wounds of Native men, women, and children. A number of years ago, I had the privilege of worshiping at Makah Lutheran in Neah Bay, Washington. I can tell you, it is a life-changing experience to be surrounded by a group of Christians who can worship their Lord and Savior with excitement and within their own culture, knowing He has reclaimed them from the darkness and they are His beloved children. Your donations make this possible!

I am humbled and honored to serve now as Interim Executive Director. My prayer is that our board and staff will continue to walk with God, following His guidance, while in the process of identifying the next individual He’s chosen to lead this ministry into the future.

It’s clear God has put the lives of Native peoples on your heart and led you to an important supportive role in our ministry. Your prayers and gifts sustain us.

I ask you to please give today to empower your ministry partners who proclaim the Gospel, disciple young believers, and help Native brothers and sisters overcome generational trauma. Your gift will shine the light of Jesus into darkness!
