Time - Wednesday, December 30 (Advent 2020)
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:8-12
People have their ideas, thoughts, beliefs, traditions, and way of life.
It takes time, to have discussions. It takes effort to help those in need. It takes time.
As we go out and meet needs, whether it is in your own home or in a distant country, we are examples to others of who Christ is.
We meet new people, talk, and build relationships and trust. We may not agree with what they say or believe, or their life choices. But we are to engage as Jesus did. He talked with the rich, young man, the woman at the well, the tax collector, even the demon-possessed. And as he interacted with people in these situations, he made them think, gave them different perspectives. Formed, shaped, altered their thought processes and beliefs... and some became his students, followers, disciples and he led them.
We may not win them all to Christ then and there, but we can point them to Him and plant the seeds of truth. We can give our time. Jesus said we can do what he did and more. Imagine that!
So, at what cost does one go? At what cost does one not go?
Jesus gave us 34 years.
Though his official ministry didn’t start until his thirties, already as a newborn, he was bringing hope - to the shepherds in the field, the wise men, his parents.
Go! Use your time wisely and meet the needs of those God has called you to.
Heavenly Father, you gave us your son to die for us. Help me to see the sacrifices I can make for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
